About Dr. Newman

Dr. Jaymie Mackler, N.D., L.Ac., Naturopathic Physician and Chinese Medicine Practitoner:

Judith Calhoun, R.N., N.T.P., I.V. Therapy Nurse and Nutritional Therapy Practitioner:
“Hello, my name is Judith, and some of you may know me as one of the I.V. therapy nurses at Rising Health Wellness Center. I graduated as a registered nurse (what seems like) a million years ago, and more recently trained in Holistic I.V. Therapy at the National College of Natural Medicine.
I have also received my certification as a Holistic Nutritional Therapist from the Nutritional Therapy Association, where I currently serve as a Group Leader. I teach the Introductory Nutrition Class here at Rising Health, and give individual Nutritional Counseling Sessions as well. I believe that if we are what we eat, then we should consume good quality, wholesome, properly prepared, nutrient dense food.
I am a Reiki master, and certified Feng Shui practitioner. I love the outdoors, yoga, and oil painting. I have one son, who is thinking about becoming a paramedic.”

Nancy Jo Newman, Clinic Administrator:
“Hi, I’m Nancy Jo Newman, and I work to keep everything running as smoothly as possible at the Rising Health Wellness Center, so you can have the best possible experience when you visit our clinic. (That includes keeping Dr. Newman in line, which believe me is a full time job)!
I am also a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, and local chapter leader of the Weston A. Price Foundation, where all are invited to join our monthly meetings on healthful eating here at Rising Health Welness Center. When I’m not working, I make trips to Ellensburg as often as I can to visit my 4 year old grandson, and currently pregnant daughter.”

Jera, Assistant to the Administrator:
“Hi. My name is Jera and many of you may recognize me as one of the smiling faces that greet you when you arrive at Rising Health. I have been with the clinic since April 2008, and have gained a wealth of knowledge I never could have expected. As the Assistant to the Administrator, I complete a wide variety of tasks around the office, as well as working in the reception area.
In my spare time, I enjoy reading suspense and horror fiction, playing video games deep into the night, and attending as many and varied musical events as possible, including Techno, Electronica, Jazz, Pop, and Classic Rock. I especially adore spending time cuddled up on my couch with either of my feline companions.”
Jeff Edwards, N.D., Naturopathic Advisor:
Kirsten, Medical Assistant:
I graduated from PCC’s Medical Assistant Program in 2007, and went to work in a busy Western Medicine clinic. Two years later, I felt frustrated with that system, and its inability to help patients in the way I wanted. I longed to get to know them, see them as people, and watch them get better. I am excited to be able to do that here at Rising Health Wellness Center.
I was raised in Oregon, with an early education of healthy eating. While my friends were eating Wonder Bread and bologna sandwiches, I was enjoying a harvest from our garden and from local farms (with the occasional treat from the CO-OP or health food store thrown in). In my spare time, I enjoy reading, baking, classic movies, and yoga. And, I am looking forward to having an organic garden at my new Vancouver home.”

Amy, Receptionist:
“My name is Amy and I have worked for Dr. Newman since 2004, when he first moved his practice from Portland, OR to Vancouver, WA. I previously managed the office for a massage clinic in Boulder, CO.
Over the years, I have enjoyed studying the alternative healing arts, and it has been gratifying to witness so many patients experience improvements in their health here at Rising Health Wellness Center! It is important to me that my work contributes to the health and well being of people and our planet.
In my personal time, I savor quiet time in nature, and reading books. My (not so secret) secret pleasure is reading books written for youths. Peter Dickinson and Robin McKinley are two of my favorite fantasy genre authors.”

Anna, Receptionist:
“Hi, my name is Anna. I work part time at Rising Health Wellness Center, as a receptionist and to help with supplement orders and stocking. I am originally from Sweden, but have been in the United States for 12 years. In Sweden, I was an HR Administrator.
I currently live in Camas with my husband, our 2 sons, and our funny little dog. I enjoy traveling abroad, and have learned English, Spanish, French, and a little German, along with my native Swedish. I also like walking, weight training, reading, watching movies, and listening to music (I LOVE ABBA!). Cooking, eating, and a nice glass of wine are other priorities for me.”

Badger, Pet Therapist:
“Hello. My name is Badger and I am 5½ pounds of unconditional love. I am 7 years old, but still frisky enough to jump up in strangers’ laps and get petted and scratched. Originally from California, I don’t like to talk about my past; I’m just glad I was rescued by the Oregon Humane Society. I love my job, and frankly I believe I have the best position here at Rising Health Wellness Center!”
